Happy Leap Day!!

OK so I purchased another Groupon for a tour....I swear this one is the last. I got the Groupon I have been waiting for - Southern Style Tours mini bus city tour. My last trip to NOLA, I really wanted to do this tour, but it was $45 a person.

We got the Groupon for $39 total for the both of us. That's a savings of $51
This brings our total total spent to date to: $60
Savings to date: $110!

Here's what their website says about the tour: The guides of Southern Style Tours lead guests on jaunts around the city filled with knowledge of local history, culture, and culinary delights. Air-conditioned minibuses carry day-trippers on morning and afternoon trips through the French Quarter during Southern Style's city tours. Routes wind past celebrity houses and famed toolsheds as expert guides give an overview of New Orleans's history, pausing for a spooky detour that winds through the St. Louis cemetery and its gothic aboveground tombs. Trekkers also observe the lingering effects of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans’s Lower Ninth Ward and find inspiration by witnessing rebuilding efforts led in part by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's initiative

My first 5k! Disney Royal Family Tangled 5k

My First 5k!
2/25/2012

I ran my first 5k yesterday morning for the Disney Royal Family "Tangled" 5k in Orlando Florida. I was very nervous in the days leading up as I have never ran a 5k race before. The race was wonderful, very well put together and we had a ton of fun. Who wouldn't want to run through Epcot for a 5k?! I have to admit, it was hard to pass the land of Mexico wishing they had their famous Margarita's instead of a water station!

I ran this race with my friend Nicole from work. She just started sewing and made her Snow White outfit from scratch. Pretty impressive! I on the other hand ordered my Minnie Mouse skirt from Cheryl of PinkPopPolkaDot at Etsy.
Since it was a fun run, we decided to stop for a photo opp with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

I had so much fun running & dressing up for this race. Run Disney does an amazing job. My my goal by this time next year is to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon! My best friend Keri completed her first half marathon this morning for the Disney Princess Half Marathon. She is my inspiration as she not only completed this task, she did it with a hurt foot.

Sanwa Market!

Monday, February 20, 2012
One of my very favorite things about Tampa is the Sanwa Farmers Market. I stumbled across this gem by accident in search of a true "Farmers Market" in Tampa. Thanks to yelp, Sanwa became introduced to my life.

Upon first entering Sanwa, we were very overwhelmed. It's like Sam's Club meets Restaurant Depot meets International food market. This place is every foodies dream. We now do the majority of our food shopping at Sanwa and save a ton of money. Saving money does not mean we skimp on the quality of our food. I eat more Lobster and Filet Mingon now than I have ever imagined.

Below is my bi-weekly shopping trip which includes some Fat Tuesday goodies to make gumbo, jambayala & crab cakes!

This "little" shopping trip included a 5lb Filet Tenderloin, a rack of Baby Back ribs, Tilapia Filets, Boneless Skinless Chicken, Veggies galore including a huge bag of Thai Red Chili Peppers, Fruit, 2 different kinds of sausages and the mardi gras items I mentioned above. My final price at checkout? $60. That $60 got me a filet that provided me with this:

That's 8 filets and over a pound of filet chunks which I will either grind, make in chili or filet tacos!

This place is insane. When we first started going, you could buy Maine Lobsters for less than $6 a lb. The secret is getting out and they have raised their prices on a few items, including the Lobsters, but they are still at $8.99 a lb....you honestly can't beat that!

Here's their info: Sanwa Farmers Market - 2621 E Hillsborough Ave. Tampa, FL 33610
Hours of OperationMonday - Thursday 4:30 AM - 7:00 PM
Friday - Saturday 4:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Sunday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
