Wedding Wednesday - Presenting the Wedding Cake!

Wednesday, January 15, 2014
When we were in New Orleans last month, we selected our wedding cake. While many couples aren't thinking wedding cakes 10 months prior to the big day, we needed to get this taken care of on this trip as I am not sure Gabe will be making it back to the Big Easy prior to the big day.

Part of our reception agreement included a wedding cake from Haydel's Bakery. Haydel's is widely known for their famous King Cakes during Mardi Gras but they also make award winning wedding cakes. There were so many designs to choose from and you could customize the one you chose from there. The first decision we needed to make was filling. There were multiple flavors including chocolate, raspberry, pistachio, butter cream, Irish cream, strawberry, lemon and I know I am forgetting a few.
We decided on a 3 tier three layer cake so we we have to get almond cake as the base. The three layer filling we are doing is praline, chocolate, praline. Neither Gabe or I like fondant so we opted for butter cream icing. After going back and forth for longer than I want to recall, we decided on this cake with different color flowers.
The gum flowers is what sold me and they will cost a little extra. We will come out of pocket about $75 for this cake when it is all said and done with. That is not a bad deal!!!

We have not decided on the colors of the flowers yet - I think the deep plum would be too drastic all over so I am thinking of a combination of the colors scheme. I may have to play around with photoshop to see if I can make an example before submitting the final decision.
