Dear Sodastream, I think I love you!

Friday, August 31, 2012
I was first introduced to Sodastream a few Christmas's ago. I thought it would be the perfect gift for my Step-Dad who drinks a lot of soda water with his vodkas. I never imagined owning one myself until Gabe & I moved in together. I am not a soda drinker, I have 3 staple drinks: coffee, sparkling water & wine. Gabe on the other hand drinks a ton of soda. At times, we would have four 12 packs junking up the pantry. After seeing a Sodastream demo, we became more than intrigued with the machine. We are now proud owners of one and here is why:
Besides the above four benefits, what ultimately sold us on the Sodastream was the nutrition factor. That and they have their own version of Red Bull. Check out the Cost difference, $0.25 for Red Bull vs. $2.00! I also never have to worry about my sparkling water going flat.

Today, I will review and compare Soda Stream's Fountain Mist to Mountain Dew.

Calories 35
Sodium 45mg
Carbohydrates 8g
Sugars 8g

VS

Mountain Dew 12oz Can
Calories 170
Sodium 65mg
Carbohydrates 46g
Sugars 46g

I must add that Sodastream tastes exactly like Mountain Dew. I did a blind taste test on Gabe, who drinks Mountain Dew all the time. He thought the Fountain Mist was Mountain Dew. When we saw the demo, of Sodastream, we learned that the flavors contain no high-fructose corn syrup aside from less sugar, calories, carbohydrates and sodium than national drink brands. Each bottle of concentrated sodamix makes the equivalent of 12 liters (33 cans) of soda!

I planned on making you all a video of myself making sodastream. On that note, I will leave you with their stock video!

  1. As a once avid soda drinker I must ask - Do they have a mix for Dr. Pepper??

    1. Actually yes the do have a Dr. Pepper mix! It's called Pete's Choice - that one has 36 calories, 2mg of sodium & 8g of carbs / sugar. We tried that one at the demo. Tastes just like Dr. Pepper.

  2. Megan, I am glad you did a review of this machine! I have been looking to get one for a while but wasn't sure if the flavors tasted like the real thing.

    1. We have quite a few flavors, all of which we have been pleased by. We tried out the sparkling waters, which Gabe wasn't a fan of but I liked. It wasn't as sweet as the soda's. My favorite so fari is the cranberry raspberry!

  3. Thanks for the review! I've also wanted to get one of these for a while not, but I've been skeptical about the tastes.. I love Red Bull, but don't drink it very often now because of the price, so maybe having a sodastream would make sense!

    1. The Red Bull is honestly what sold me on the machine. The fact that you can get 55 cans of red bull for $5 is beyond me. It tastes exactly like Red Bull & they have Sugar Free (you know that made me happy!!!). I need a carrying case to bring the sodastream to your next Football party!!!

  4. I've seen that machine in stores, and I think once at a trade show... it looks cool -- I'm more interested now that I see you've tried it and like it!

    1. Def. check it out! They demo them at Costco and at William-Sonoma. I seriously didn't think I would like the machine as much as I do. I love having the bottom portion of my pantry clutter free!

  6. I'm a soda drinker before but when I learned that high fructose corn syrup is bad to our health and most soda used it in their products, I suddenly quit drinking it. But this product makes me happy. I think I would try this one if this product doesn't really use high fructose corn syrup.
